Day 20: Beach Day in Lorne
I think this was the hottest day by far on the trip. However, I also got in 3 walks , which is either quite the feat or rather unwise.
Lorne is a very pretty beach town. It sits in a protected "cove" , with a ridge to the west . The water is very clear and turquoise blue. The curved beach stretches for seeming " miles" and the sand is perfect to walk on, though today in bare feet it was very hot.
The town itself is marked by cafes and surf shops. As with any beach town, I found the prices for food and drinks to be a tad inflated. However having been here before , I know there are many great places to go and eat.
A long pier is located out at the point , which lies about 1500 meters from the beach. The walk is pleasant, and you can either take the path or walk the shoreline for most of the way. The pier is a main fishing area, and I was told many go out there to fish for squid. At the end of the point there is a quaint art shop, that sells everything from painting, prints, CDs. Always interesting to peruse, and see what you may find in stores like this.
We spent most of the afternoon at the beach. As you can see it gets very busy, especially as this was Labour Day, a public holiday. Australia is coming to the close of their summer and is entering autumn. In this heat , it was best to immrerse yourself in the water for a bit, sit in the shade (we brought a tent to the beach) read, nap and repeat.
