Day 7 : Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park

It was a beautiful morning as I woke up at  our cottage in Swansea.  I got to see the sun rise in the east and the moon as it started to set in the west. Today we were off to Freycinet National Park. We were going to do the 2hour hike to see Wineglaass Bay. The hike is considered one of the most spectacular in Tasmania and after experiencing it, I can now see why it is.

Before. heading out on our hike, we went to Kate's Berry Farm for breakfast. I got to dine on fresh scones with fresh strawberry jam, and whipped cream. The scones were light  and the strawberry jam was sweet and delicious. Accompanied by some coffee it was the perfect way to start the day.

Freycinet National Park lies on the east coast of Tasmania. It is about 1 hr and a half north of Hobart on a peninsula on the Tasman Sea. Wineglass Bay can only be accessed by foot or by boat. The walk takes approximately 2hr .Luckily today, it was about 20C , so not overly warm, and with a slight breeze.

The walk to the lookout takes you on a groomed trail and has a series of rock steps on the way to the top.  There are approximately 300 steps through a scrub forest , and on the way it offers views of Coles Bay before you reach the top. You also pass thru some interesting rock formations. The trail is wide enough to allow people to pass , and there are ample areas to rest on your way to the top.

Upon arrival at the top, you are met with a most spectacular view. It made the hike more than worthwhile.

The water is crystal clear, and blue like the tropics. If you turn. you can see the rocky crags of Mt Amos that lies to the north.

After conquering the Wineglass Bay hike , we opted for the short, but also spectacular Cape Tourville walk. The walk takes you to the edge of Freycinet Park, looking out over the Tasman Sea.

Freycinet National Park is one of the gems of Tasmania. The views are spectacular, and the park offers you a chance to experience the rugged beauty of the east coast of Tasmania.

After a long day of exploring , we made a visit to Devil's Corner Winery, just outside the park. We sampled some wine and some pizza. While I'm not really a wine drinker, I sampled the Pinot Grigot, which I enjoyed. Drinking some wine inthe Tasmanian sunshine, was a great way to end that part of the day.

We are spending the night in Bicheno. Bicheno is a small town of 950 people. We have a small place that is comfortable for the four of us. We ended our day at the Lobster Shack, a local favourite. We feasted on lobster rolls, chowder and oysters.  All in all it was a wonderful day here on the east coast of Tasmania.
